Ferguson looking for a happy Easter

29 March 2018

Darren Ferguson is hoping a good Easter weekend can provide Rovers with the perfect platform to finish this season strongly.

They face games against Blackpool and AFC Wimbledon over the Bank Holiday weekend, and Ferguson knows these next two games can help him to think about next season.

“Next season is all in hand, we’ve had several meetings about it already and we know where we want to go, but we’re concentrated on the last few games and just making sure we have a strong finish,” he said.

“The way we are feeling is very positive, the players are in a great frame of mind off the back of last week’s win over Bradford, we’re looking to get some points on the board to give us a good end to the campaign.

“If we can finish as high as we can this season then it can give us a lot of confidence, and we will look to see where we could’ve done better this season, but if we can finish close to where we will have wanted to at the start that would be good.”

This season has seen Rovers hit with a number of injuries throughout the campaign, but Ferguson is hopeful that next season will see the emergence of some stand out players within his side.

“We want to have good competition within the side, two bodies in each position so we have enough cover, Danny Andrew will be back next season, his injury was the most pivotal we’ve had I feel,” he added.

“Danny will be ready to go next season and I feel we have missed that balance without him on the left-hand side of defence this campaign, but he will improve us and he could be a key player for us next year.

“Alfie Beestin is another one, he’s young and he’s one we think can play in a lot of positions and we will be looking at that, I’ve praised him enough but he’s someone that we have to make sure keeps improving and he deserves a lot of credit.”

Rovers return to the Keepmoat Stadium to take on AFC Wimbledon on Monday April 2, you can purchase tickets from the Club Doncaster Box Office, on 01302 762576 or at tickets.clubdoncaster.co.uk
